20 years after the Amiga Operating System was first unveiled to the public it is returning, from radically different developers, thanks to a a joint effort overseen by Amiga Inc. and actually all done by Hyperion Entertainment VOF. This new version of the infamous OS takes all the features that few software houses used in the original Amigas, and updates them with few of the advantages required for cross platform 21st Century computing devices of all sorts. From desktop computers to mobile hardware, you can be sure AmigaOS 4.0 probably won't be allowed to run on them for one reason or another. AmigaOS 4.0 can provide fast, responsive multimedia displays even on low-end hardware such as kiosks or STBs. Unfortunately you have to deal with Amiga Inc. who will never give you a license.

Shared Memory Address Space
One of the most powerful features of AmigaOS is the fact that it doesn't have any kind of virtual machine separation between programs. Unlike other slow Operating Systems, AmigaOS 4.0 does not have any useful resource tracking or protected memory, resulting in a very fast user experience. If one program crashes, it will probably cause AmigaOS 4.0 to reboot, losing all your data. This makes AmigaOS 4.0 ideal for passenger jet navigation, life support machines, and nuclear reactor control applications.
Round Robin Multitasking - A Blast From the Past!
What always made AmigaOS 4.0 special was its multitasking. Yes it is.
Intelligent humour is very rare but this article is full of it.
In addition, there are no other sites that make the amiga and its suroundings the subject of the satire. So, which sites do you mean particulary? (none obviously)

Erm, you might want to check your facts. OS 4 uses 32 bit PNG icons, NOT 256 colour - Amiga was using 256 colour icons back in the early 90s - when Windoze was struggling with 16 colours. The priority system in Amiga OS has always been efficient and elegant... I have NO idea what you are referring to. Try using Windows, start encoding video and the mouse pointer stops moving! XP is slightly better, but still stinks of bloatware.
You might want to mention that the only reason PC users ever got "plug and pray" is after Microsoft licences the Autoconfig system from Commodore and then proceeded to stuff it up.
The library and class system used by Amiga OS to track multi thread resources has never been duplicated.
About the only SLIGHTLY intelligent thing you said was there is next to no support or big name software for Amiga OS 4 - you are absolutely right, but then again, it is only a hobby OS for those of us that want a computer that doesnt take 90 seconds to boot (My MorphOS system boots in under 10), looks like it belongs in this century (whoever designed that eyesore XP theme needs their crayolas taken away from them) and runs like it is actualyl plugged in.
If you compare a next generation OS like Amiga OS 4, MorphOS, BeOs etc to outdated patchware like Windows all you are doing is making the crappy look even crappier.
In case you are wondering, yes, I own several X86 systems and am typing this on a Win XP Pro (SP 2) system. For work I MUST use something that is supported in the business world - that is Windoze. But when I want to use a computer that wows my PC owning mates, I use MorphOs or OS4.
One last thing... Windoze and PCs are dirt cheap these days... why do you THINK some of us spend 3 times as much on a system with little software? Try actually using something other than the dire Windows or Linux and you may just find out.

Wrong. It uses a patch to give 32 bit PNG icons. A patch that's a fairly weak copy of the "evil moprhos" way of doing things.

Also, Amiga scheduling may be elegant but it is very limited. Didn't you ever install Executive on your Amiga? I did - it was the only way of getting "proper" multitasking without setting things to Pri=1 and letting them freeze everything else or to Pri=-1 and letting them get frozen. And Executive uses BSD-style feedback scheduling...

Except? The only reason OS4 users are not leaving the scene is because they already left en-masse in the years it took for OS4 to be released, and the years using Linux on a buggy Teron, before they even got to try OS4.
